KANPNM Annual Membership Meeting 2023

PROPOSED BYLAW CHANGE

In keeping with KANPNM's vision that Kentucky APRNs should be recognized as full partners and leaders in the development of health policy, provision of quality health care and advocacy for the people of the Commonwealth the following Resolutions may be presented to the Association membership for approval and adoption.

The following action is presented to members of KANPNM on April 27, 2023 at the General Membership Meeting luncheon held at Coalition Conference in Lexington, Ky.

ALIGN KANPNM BYLAWS IN RESPONSE TO AANP KENTUCKY STATE REPRESENTATIVE CRITERIA CHANGE

Presently, the Kentucky Representative of the American Association of Nurse Practitioners is included in KANPNM's Bylaws to serve as an ex officio member of the Association Board of Directors.

Recent criteria changes by the American Association of Nurse Practitioners for 2023 narrow the eligibility of persons serving as State Representatives (now to be known as "State Liaisons") so that their sole focus and primary allegiance in such role is to AANP.

Per AANP criteria defining "State Representatives and leadership roles in other NP organizations: New Criterion --  State Representatives cannot concurrently serve on a board, chair a committee or council or be employed by a nursing certification or membership organization (including those whose products, services or interests overlap with AANP) unless the position is specifically designated to represent AANP's best interests."

The unanimous recommendation of the KANPNM Board of Directors is to amend KANPNM's bylaws to eliminate the Kentucky Representative of AANP ex officio seat from the board and to correct the bylaws to reflect that the only ex officio seat on the board be held by the Kentucky Affiliate President of the American College of Nurse-Midwives.
